New DVD player

So I have talked to Samsung several times since my dead DVD player post. The second call was pretty much the same as the first, except that the hope of a shipping label was gone, I was going to have to ship it on my own dime. On Thursday, I faxed in the proof of purchase. Friday I called in, they didn't have it in their system. On Monday, I called in, they had it, but they said it would cost me $30 labor to get it fixed. They also said even though I was told there would be no charge, that was not marked in the call.

I was instructed to ship the unit to the repair center, they would fix it, then I could pay my $30 to get it back. I called again on Tuesday morning to verify the story again, same story, so I told them to go ahead and close the call, I wouldn't be sending in the unit, I would rather go and get a new unit from someone else. I took my $30, went to Walmart, and got the $30 Magnavox special.

I figure it's a wash either way, but it didn't make a lot of sense to fix it just to have it break again in 3 months, and I hope that last call was "recorded for quality assurance purposes."

    So Samsung saved $30.00 but got bad press in the blogs, and who knows how many bad referrals to students who ask John Payne's opinion.

    I think it would have been better to fix his DVD drive.
