Summertime Wii Olympics

***Exclusive event announcement***

I am starting a new contest here at the house. It's a Wii decathalon. We will be using "Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games" to run the contest. There will be an end of contest awards ceremony, including dinner and medals.

Rules:
  • The contest runs from now through August 16th. Scores/Times are looked on at midnight, August 15. (The night of August 15th...)
  • The dinner & awards ceremony will begin promptly at 4pm on August 16th. During the awards ceremony, all attendees will hum the national anthem of the winners choice.
  • Many can enter, few will win. All scores recorded and maintained by me. The link to the scores can be found by following this link, or by looking at the bottom of this blog.
  • Anyone can enter, just come over and declare yourself in. There will be no drug testing, although the use of performance enhancing drugs is strongly discouraged. If you don't live nearby, take a trip, make a stop, play all the events, and leave. No problem.
  • All races to be done at our home. No outside scores will be accepted. Friday evenings from 6pm-9:30pm (or so) are available for open racing. Anyone can come and post scores during this time. Dessert will be offered to you if you attend these sessions. Other times of the week are available by contacting Tara or me. (You can come anytime really, you just need to make sure we are around...)
  • Post a low score or slow race? Someone beat your best time? Don't worry, come back and try again. You are welcome to try to improve as often as you like up to the late night of August 15th.
  • The races: Hammer Throw, Pole Vault, Single Sculls (rowing), 100m Freestyle Swim, Archery, 100 Meter Dash, 4x100 Meter Relay, Javelin Throw, High Jump, 110 Meter Hurdles.
  • You are welcome to use any character you think you want for each race. You are not tied to a single one. You can also create and use a Mii to race with. (Or bring your own with your own Wii remote.)
Scoring:
  • As scores are posted, the results page will be modified to include an up-to-the-minute score sheet. This score sheet can vary wildly, since someone can walk in anytime, post 4 high scores, and vault themselves from last place to first. (So don't get discouraged, just try again.)
  • First place in an event - 15 points.
  • Second place in an event - 12 points.
  • Third place in an event - 10 points.
  • Forth place through whatever - counts down from there. In the event that there are more than 12 contestants, some people will end up scoring zero for each event.
  • 4 people with the same score/time equals 4 people with the same placement and point total. If it's 1st place, 4 people get 15 points. Person #5 gets 12 points for second place. (Not 8 points for 5th. Don't argue, I'm in charge.)

Did the google doc calculate the winners for you or did you do the calculations? Again, I am LOVING this idea.

I did the calculations myself, but I could have configured it to calculate things on its own, but didn't bother to take the time to do that. It is just a spreadsheet tool, and spreadsheets can be configured to do many of these types of things...

I am not the best with spreadsheets, so we will see what happens. I have submitted my idea to my principal, so we will see what happens. Thanks for your suggestions.
