Netflix appears to now be partnering with a place called Common Sense Media. ("a non-profit organization dedicated to improving kids' media lives")
They rate moves to show if they really are appropriate for kids of the age most likely to want to see the movie. For example, the movie Open Season is rated a "Go" for ages 5 and up. (And our 3 year old thinks it's really funny that they use bunnies as tools and weapons in the movie, by the way.) Their ratings include conciderations for sexual content, violence, language, social behavior, and drugs/alcohol/tobacco.
The movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind is a "Go" for ages 8 and up. Under social behavior, their comment is "Tolerance on an interplanetary level." Hilarious.
